Renaissance Man

LEONARDO DA VINCI (1452-1519) was born on April 15, 1452 in the village of Vinci as the illegitimate child of Ser Piero da Vinci, a notary, and a farm maid called Caterina.  Leonardo worked as an artist apprentice in the Florence studio of Verrocchio, and after a difficult start as a painter in Florence, spent eighteen years as a celebrated court artist in Milan, ruled by Duke Ludovico “Il Moro” Sforza.

Following a stint in the entourage of Cesare Borgia, Leonardo returned to Florence in 1503.
