Francesco Melzi

Francesco Melzi, (1491-1570), son of a Milanese nobleman, joined Leonardo as a pupil in 1507. He eventually became an accomplished painter in his own right, worked on a number of paintings under Leonardo’s supervision, and remained with the master until his death in 1519. He also became Leonardo’s main assistant, and was granted possession of all his personal belongings as per Leonardo’s will.
