Andrea del Verrocchio

Andrea del Verrocchio (c.1435-1488), painter, sculptor and goldsmith who apprenticed pupils including Leonardo da Vinci in his workshop, which was one the leading studios in Florence. Leonardo’s father, who recognized his artistic talent, secured the apprenticeship, which lasted from approximately 1467 to 1472, when Verrocchio and Leonardo became collaborators. In 1476, Leonardo painted an angel and Christ’s torso in Verrocchio’s Baptism of Christ.
